painting progress blah blah...

Sorry for the lapse in posts lately, been a hectic couple of weeks. Spent most of it on a couple of shows, commercial work, design jobs, some family time (got our grandson this weekend :) and crippled my painting arm working out on Friday (you cannot start lifting weights again at 37 like you did at 31).
Anyway here is the progress on the Armageddon Mary piece. The background is 90% there and got the first passes done on the horse and woman figures. The tonal ranges are a bit off and rough but there's enough to really start working into it.

2012 Studio Tour Kick Off

The 2012 Studio Tour kicks off on Saturday starting at 10 AM and finishes up at 5 PM on Sunday (65 Aspen, Elmira ON). Robin Oakes will also be showing a selection of work. Doing going, going doing

Sorry for the lack of new posts last week, it's been a bit hectic the last little while. I got to see my partner's mother get married on Saturday and we moved Robin into our new home on Sunday. Today looks like a big unpacking and organising day.
I will be on Rogers Cable on Wednesday (I think at 11:00am) along with Frances Gregory to promote the upcoming Kissing Bridge Studio Tour next weekend. Check it out if you get the chance and I hope to see you out on the weekend (17 artists, 5 locations... great chance to see some local art)

Latest painting, new work coming

Here is the latest canvas on the go. Has been in the head for about a month and a half, about four full days of sketching, gathering reference, composition and the final rendering. It is another piece in the Alpha/Omega narrative I'm working on. There should be more frequent completed pieces in the future. I've got about 25-30 images for the project that need to be completed. Going to be working some ink wash, pencil and maybe copics into the mix... love the painting but need to get more work done and excited to play with some different mediums as finished works. Other than that,  doing going, going doing. The move is next weekend along with a wedding, studio tour the weekend after and the Fredrick Art Walk the week after that....

Painting Update and a fridge full of other stuff

Been on the pilot piece for about another three days. What I thought was going to be a quick painting has turned into an eye bleeder. It's a good test of patience (detail needs to be there) but hard not to overdo it and noodle the hell out of it.
Other than that, a great opportunity has come up to be interviewed by Rogers Cable to promote the studio tour has come up and I've been invited to participate in another show at the Woodstock Art Gallery. Throw in the move, studio tour and a whack of other things it's been busy.... looking forward to November.

Painting Progress, paintings headed to California

Trudging away on the newest painting. Took a a day to lay in the blacks (almost like inking a comic page). Huge help in the initial paint lay-in to not lose the detail of the drawing and as a reminder how the forms and shapes hit and turn. Working this one back to front, section by section to make sure I don't lose all the detail work. If things go well I will be sending two originals to California later today to a happy new collector. Doing going going doing!! :)

New Painting Today and Teaching

Here's what's on the easel today. It's the newest piece in the ongoing narrative series I've got on the go. Been in the head for about 4 weeks, spent the last two-three days working on comps, gathering reference and did the charcoal transfer and drawing to the 12"x12" canvas this morning. The rest of the day is business stuff and teaching tonight. Hectic lately - getting the move organized, chasing some freelance work, new paintings, gallery show Friday and Studio Tour end of October (27, 28th).... should breath every once and a while :)

Other than that, been neck deep in promotional stuff the last two days (websites, prints, updating). I have two new pieces at the Art Gallery of Woodstock for their Jury Show starting Sept. 29th and starting to prepare for a studio tour at the end of October.... it's been a bit hectic.

Mother Earth, Father Time

Finally put the last touches on the Mother Earth painting in this two part piece. These were about 5 months in the works (about 3 months trapped in the head and about five-six weeks to create) Pretty happy with them, came out relatively close to what I had trapped in the skull.
