Listen Series Gallery Show - Gallery M

I really enjoyed the process in regards to using the charcoal to create the hair texture and exploring the new drawing process. First Listen piece of 2016 completed! Halfway through the first run at attempting this drawing I started over. I was fighting with the paper and materials - sometimes it's best just to stop. I started fresh and tried out a new surface and used charcoal as the main rendering tool for the first time. I'm so happy with the results plus finding a new working method that suits my needs and taste - little victories are sometimes the best.

Listen 6 - Job complete : print and original information

Listen 6 - Job 24"x36", Acrylic on Canvas

I wrapped up the 6th portrait in the Listen series over the last couple of days. The model and narrative were inspired by the biblical story of Job and his trials through faith. This has been on the easel off and on for the last three months and it's going to be a bit odd not working on him. I love how it turned out and I'm really happy with how the series is progressing.

The smaller prints are printed on 11"x17" (image area 8.25"x12.25") high quality 100 lbs. archival paper and will be hand signed. There are $33 CAN and include SAH.

Some Listen 6 progress - breaks are good sometimes

A bit of progress on Listen 6. I have not been able to really even look at it the last month between commissions, life stuff , etc.. Nice thing about some time away is errors become very obvious. In the previous version I had a worn poster in the background marking Job's loses in the contest between god and satan. I looked at it today and it was just WRONG. I ended up moving the numbers into the hebrew design arm tattoo and brought some of the black stain elements to the right for balance and it kind of symbolizes Job's torment that must be carried. MUCH happier with it... sometimes a break is good. smile emoticon

Listen 4 and 5 on Display - Art Store of Waterloo Gallery

For the Kitchener-Waterloo Art Lovers I will be displaying Listen 4 and 5 paintings at the public gallery owned by the Art Store in Waterloo for the month of October. It's an wonderful space to display and the owners have always been amazing as a regular customer (in business since 1987). On display are over a dozen local artists' work and you can't compare seeing a piece in person to on a screen. The address is 91 Caroline St. S. Waterloo (parking behind Waterloo Town Square, most of the road cons. is done) and the hours are 10-7 Mon-Sat., noon-5 on Sunday. It's a great chance to check out both paintings in person and support an amazing local business.

Listen 6 work in progress - Preparatory drawing

Just wrapping up the canvas sketch-up on the next painting in the Listen series. It's inspired by the Book of Job. It's gonna be a big boy - 2'x3' and a long hauler - about 6 weeks, 200+hours of work. The long term plan with the series in to produce 10-15 paintings and 10 drawings and put together a public showing - gallery or otherwise along with a hardcover book down the line. This is turning into a real labour of love and I'm grateful that I can work on pieces like this. If you want to support getting to these goals and enjoy the work the best way to do it is to purchase a print, notebook, journal or a set of cards. $20-30 is a huge help and makes a big difference. Finished up Listen 5 today. I really love it, had to challenge myself and it was a little victory which was needed. Large parts of the last couple of months have been very frustrating and discouraging and it's easy to embrace and fester in that mindset. I'm very blessed to be surrounded by amazing people and have a spouse who loves and supports me unconditionally.
