Commissions, New Work and Christmas Thank You's!!!

After about a couple of months of commissions I finally have something I can post!! This is a recent commercial piece for a skin care company. The piece was done traditionally with graphite and white pencil (14"x18") and coloured digitally. You can see the side by side comparison in the image. I really love how it turned out. The original art is available as well.
I also want send a giant thank you to all my existing and new clients / collectors who have commissioned or purchased personal or professional work this season. The last 2 months has been incredibly busy but I've had the pleasure of working with some fantastic people on some great pieces. It definitely helps this time of year and it allows me to keep doing this - can't express enough thank-you's. Got the big boy wrapped up this morning. This is the largest and most complicated painting I've done this year (19 days - 140-170 hours). Felt like tossing it at some points but I'm really pleased with it and it's very rewarding to get these large pieces through what is at times a very frustrating process. The original is available. A bit more #Smaug progress to end the week. The large paintings are always a bit scary from the time, money and work involved, the insecurity that goes with it and just a wee bit of obsessive compulsiveness. Very glad I have good company to pull me out for a walk, a morning at the market or a Friday night Nick Cave movie... it mostly gets the priorities straight and the head out of the nether regions... which is often needed.

Smaug - the hobbit painting work in progress

About 7-8 hours of progress on Smaug today, the painting scares the bejesus out of me so started by blocking in the darkest areas to reinforce the forms in the drawing to get the process started. Pop can is just there for scale… that would just be bad idea normally… the painting is 36"x18".

Rocket Racoon - Guardian of the Galaxy Painting in Progress

A bit of progress on the Rocket Racoon piece (about 3 day, 20-24 hours in) The hand cannon was a challenge handling the colour shifting and getting a consistent copper / beat up look. May have to tweak the whole thing once I get into the figure but it's a good start.

Surreal Show ready to go

Here is a sneak peak of the show (installation 90% there). Thanks to the staff at the Centre of the Arts for doing a great job. Install should be done today and open to the public. If you have any questions or inquiries about the show or a piece you can get in touch with the facility, myself, Sean Chappell or Robin Crank, we'd be happy to help. Here's all the pertinent info:

The Cambridge Centre for the Arts is located in downtown Cambridge, Ontario, as part of the Civic Square. Located at 60 Dickson Street, N1R 8N1 with the main entrance accessible from Cambridge City Hall located at the corner of Cambridge and Thorne Streets. Free 2 hour parking is available in the City Hall parking lot as well as, the Wellington Street lot at the corner of Dickson and Wellington Streets.
